In the figure above, M, N, and P are midpoints of the sides of an equilateral triangle whose perimeter is 18. What is the perimeter of the shaded region?

Explanation
Considering we do have an equilater triangle, all sides are equal in lenght. If the perimeter of the big triangle is 18, then each side is long 6. Considering that the big one is divided actually into 4 equal smal triangles and M N and P are the midpoints, every side of the small ones is 3.
As such, the perimeter of the inside triangle is 9.
Answer is E
