APPROACH #1: Solve for x first
Given: 12x - 4 = 20
Add 4 to both sides to get: 12x = 24
Solve to get: x = 2
So, 4x - 1 = 4(2) - 1
= 8 - 1
= 7

APPROACH #2: Make the given equation resemble the expression 4x - 1
Given: 12x - 4 = 20
Add 4 to both sides to get: 12x = 24
Divide both sides by 3 to get: 4x = 8
Subtract 1 from both sides to get: 4x - 1 = 8 - 1

Given that 12x - 4 = 20 and we need to find the value of 4x - 1
12x - 4 = 20
=> 3*4x = 20 + 4 = 24
=> 4x = \(\frac{24}{3}\) = 8
=> 4x - 1 = 8 - 1 = 7
So, Answer will be D
