GRE - powerprep compare the lengths of two sides in different triangles.jpg
Quantity A |
Quantity B |
x |
y |
A) Quantity A is greater.
B) Quantity B is greater.
C) The two quantities are equal.
D) The relationship cannot be determined from the information given.
QTY A:
Since it is a right angled \(\triangle\),
therefore x = \(\sqrt{(10^2 - 4^2)}\) = \(\sqrt{{48}} = 4\sqrt{3}\)
QTY B:
Since it is a right angled isosceles \triangle,
so the sides are distributed in the ratio \(1 : 1 : \sqrt{2}\)i.e. \(4 : 4 : 4\sqrt{2}\)
\(y = 4\sqrt{2}\)
Hence \(4\sqrt{3} > 4\sqrt{2}\)
QTY A > QTY B
