The sentence tells us that the word is not so much important in conversation as compared to the change in tone of the voice. So Inflexion which means modulation of pitch is a correct answer. Pitch is a trap word. It simply means a high pitch or low pitch without modulation. Hence for the second blank utilized makes sense because words actually used does not matter.

Pls explain why not 'implied ' for second blank.

The sentence actually meaning is: the way you deliver your words and the tone often change the meaning of the words itself and what they convey to the listener or I.E they implied.

No sir. They aren't.

Pitch may be higher or lower but inflection represent the tone in which the statement is conveyed.

Please ask if the doubt remains.
