Because you need a contrast word in line with the meaning of the sentence.

The ii bank is efficacious, so, you need a word that shows the new models are efficacious yet not elegant like the old ones.

Creditable is out of scope. We need new models that are powerful, efficacious but NOT elegant in their creation.

Hope now is really clear.

The tools of today provide not an elegant solution, which means they are less effective than those provided by old, simple yet efficacious tools.

This is in a nutshell.

Hope this helps.

What is the clue here? I mean the tools are very good and conventional ways could have been flawed. I am unable to figure out a definite clue here.

The is not a real and conclusive clue here.

C comes from a whole grasp of the sentence. However, if you really wanna a clue is the first part of the sentence

Potentially insightful and powerful analytical tools

These two characteristics of the new models suggest you that they are already reliable (creditable) and cogent (clear and logic).

Hope this helps.

POTENTIALLY IS THE CLUE HERE
Potentially insightful tool i.e. with the capacity to develop or happen in the future.
Right now, they are ---*something negative*----

But sir how did you get to this point- "The tools of today provide not an elegant solution, which means they are less effective than those provided by old, simple yet efficacious tools.", I didn't get it when I read the question, though i did sense that the two were presenting a contrast[/quote
Yes, there is clear contrast Inelegant and efficacious.

with all due respect to expert's explanation and me being just newbie, I smell something fishy in explanation. seems like "Potentially" is used as the contrasting word, which I doubt. If it were to be "purported" then I could have agreed that " tool" is crappy. but the first clause is a modifier and it is modifying the new tool, so without negative annotation it should be positive word... "cogent" is fit to the bill and then contrast to it "suspect" for 2nd blank.

if contrasting word used in "often" then explanation seems edible to digest. experts please help right way to move forward.

With all respect for you Sir,

we provide explanations which must be also read carefully.

Potentially is the keyword as a balance point in your decision making.

Then, making fussy debate is not our goal.

Now

Potentially insightful and powerful analytical tools, the new electronic databases used to drive corporate planning often lead (the corporations ) to (i)_______________ hypotheses, chiefly, in quantitative science and finance, areas in which inventive solutions achieved in the past by more traditional means have been highly (ii)_______________.

Is that modifier that leads you to C as the answer to the first blank. Often is just the adverb that shows you the frequency but per se it is unuseful to make you a decision. That's is not the key point. At most, it reinforces the concept that using the analytical tool OFTEN, those same tool lead the corporation to a certain result.

I couldn't get this one. I was swayed away by creditable and inadequate. Below is the explanation from Magoosh

Note that the new electronic databases are described as potentially insightful and powerful—
the implication being that they are not living up to their potential. Thus, the word
used in Blank (i) to describe hypotheses will reflect that shortcoming, in contrast with
the inventive solutions achieved in the past, which should be described by a more positive
term in Blank (ii). By process of elimination, we can rule out the two more positive
choices for Blank (i) and the two negative, or lukewarm, choices for Blank (ii).

I don't understand why c and f are the correct answer rather than A and D
as will as the sentence (Potentially insightful and powerful analytical tools) indicate that the company's used more powerful statistical programs to reach into their conclusions (hypotheses) so these new hypotheses have some degree of credulity in compare with old solutions which they have high amount of risk (suspect)

The clues are non existent. One can say for example

Since they are potentially powerful....

Or

Though they are potentially powerful...

Leading to totally different set of answers.

"potentially" need not indicate future. It could also mean something that has the capacity at present. Native speakers should correct me on this.
