In the sentence, it is said that Manga-illustrated Japanese books are beginning to win fans, meaning they started gaining popularity but probably not fully.
(because they are now in the, say, infant stage)
However, "the enormous success" is somewhat contrasted to the situation mentioned about Japanese books.
Its meaning seems close to "huge popularity or having a lot of fans already", not "becoming to popular recently, or gaining some fans".
It makes sense that huge success in the movie leads to popularity, which is "beginning to win fans", to other parts, "the books" as mentioned in the sentence.
I don't know what idea I can get If we reverse the order.
