If \(\frac{1}{2}\) of the number of white mice in a certain laboratory is \(\frac{1}{8}\) of the total number of mice, and \(\frac{1}{3}\) of the number of gray mice is \(\frac{1}{9}\) of the total number of mice, then what is the ratio of white mice to gray mice?

Let w represent white mice and G represent gray mice then,
from question we have:
\(\frac{1}{2}\) W = \(\frac{1}{8}\) T
or, w = \(\frac{2}{8}\) T = \(\frac{1}{4}\) T
\(\frac{1}{3}\) G = \(\frac{1}{9}\) T
or, G = \(\frac{3}{9}\) T = \(\frac{1}{3}\) T
Hence \(\frac{1}{4}\) T divided by \(\frac{1}{3}\) T = \(\frac{3}{4}\)
from question we have:
\(\frac{1}{2}\) W = \(\frac{1}{8}\) T
or, w = \(\frac{2}{8}\) T = \(\frac{1}{4}\) T
\(\frac{1}{3}\) G = \(\frac{1}{9}\) T
or, G = \(\frac{3}{9}\) T = \(\frac{1}{3}\) T
Hence \(\frac{1}{4}\) T divided by \(\frac{1}{3}\) T = \(\frac{3}{4}\)
