I thought it would be 10000 because X grew only 10000 from 1950 to 2000 where as Y and Z grew 20000 and 30000 respectively. But then W decreased by 40000 so I chaged it to D. Can some one explain why do we not consider W?

We would not consider because W did not grow. W sharank in size during this time period.
