Explanation
Distribute, group like terms, and solve for x:
4(–3x – 8) = 8(–x + 9)
–12x – 32 = –8x + 72
–32 = 4x + 72
–104 = 4x
–26 = x
Then, multiply 26 by 26 in the calculator (or –26 by –26, although the negatives will cancel each other out) to get \(x^2\), which is 676.
