If you think in a more abstract way:

A)\(x*y\)

B) \(\frac{4}{5}x * \frac{5}{4}y = x*y\)

So the answer is C.

However, the question is flawed: if you pick numbers the two quantities are NOT equal. So the answer is D.

Regards

but spoiler still says C..it shoudl be D right.

Is the answer D as x,y can take any value even zero?

No matter what x and y are, xy = xy is always true. Why would C be not correct?

Guys, I think we have overlooked the question.

The OA is correct and it is C.

If we pick numbers and these are : -1/2, -1, 0, 1, 1/2

The result of any combination of these is always C. Whenever the stem does not mention anything about what numbers we have to deal with, the consequence is that not always the time the answer is D.

Thank you for the discussion

A) x*y

B) (80% of x ) * (125% of y) => [(80/100)*x] * [(125/100)*y]. Simplifying this expression gives x*y which is same as A.

Hence both quantities are same. Answer choice C

Guys it doesn't matter what the values of X and Y are!

Col. A: XY
Col. B: 0.8X x 1.25Y = XY

Whatever, the values, they will always be equal.

Qnt A = x * y
Qnt B = 0.8 x * 1.25 y = x * y
