Can someone explain the answer, please?

Another fact. At the moment we are not able to say anything about this first bold part and the role it has.


Those who survived, however, went on with renewed fervor to lobby for Ireland’s independence, and the public nature of the uprising changed popular sentiment about British rule.

here we do have a shift. Notice the word However. This word announces two things: or an imminent conclusion or another line of theory. Either way, something is coming

While the Easter Rising was a failure by military and tactical standards, it is viewed as an important milestone in the 1919 establishment of the Republic of Ireland.

Notice the underlined portion: something X happened BUT from this, another something Y is born. Notice also that the underlined portion is the end of the story. In context, it is really the conclusion.

Now, of the answer choices only C and E have as second portion role the conclusion. However, E says that the first bold part is an outside potion. This is false. The first bold part is a fact that support the entire story we do have. And if it supports the entire story, then it also supports the conclusion of the story. So E is out and C is the answer.

Can anyone explain when to choose intermediate conclusion?

Not easy at glance.

A lot depends on the dichotomy of the entire argument as a whole

Look at this for instance



the first bold is the main conclusion and the second one is the intermediate conclusion as support of the main conclusion.

You do not have a real clue. Sometimes you can use POE, sometimes you spot it thanks to the unfolding of the sentence.............

There is not a cut-off strategy.
