Re: Perhaps there is nothing more to the album than its case tha [#permalink]
1) How do we clearly reject unwarranted hypothesis ?
2) For the first blank "did not" is mentioned; how do we infer that experimentalism is a legacy that was created by this album and it has persisted. What clues are given for this legacy ?

Blank (i): die
- Context: The phrase "did not _______ with Stockhausen" means that the tradition of experimentalism continued after him.
- Fit: Die means to cease to exist or end. The album's existence shows that experimentalism did not end when Stockhausen stopped working or passed away. (While "culminate" also works grammatically, "die" is a more direct and commonly used concept when discussing the end of an artistic movement.)

Blank (ii): unsettling conclusion
- Context: The album's experiments are dubbed "sophomoric" (immature/flawed), and these flaws lead to a deduction that is likely negative or controversial. The idea that one must abandon melody is a challenging thought for music critics.
- Fit: Unsettling conclusion perfectly captures the critical context: the album's shortcomings suggest a troubling necessity (the removal of melody) for avant-garde music.

Blank (iii): forgo producing
- Context: The conclusion is that to achieve an "unprecedented sound," one has to ________ a discernible melody. If the sound is unprecedented and the experimentation is chaotic ("sophomoric"), the implication is that traditional musical structure (melody) must be sacrificed.
- Fit: Forgo producing means to give up or abandon the creation of a melody. This is the logical consequence of seeking a truly "uncharted" sound in an avant-garde style.
