If we take a cozy value for the number of members of the chorus, such as 90, the number of boys will be 90*(5/9) = 50, then the girls would be 90-50 = 40.

5/9 of the members of the school chorus are boys, that means 4/9 of the members of the school chorus are girls.
the ratio of the girls to boys in the chorus then is 4/9 : 5/9, which is (4/9) ÷ (5/9) = 36/45 = 4/5.
