A. 14
B. 21
C. 35
D. 42
E. 56
Let L = Dahlia's lowest score. Let a, b, and c = the other scores
With all 4 scores considered, Dahlia's average is 77 We can write: (a + b + c + L)/4 = 77 Multiply both sides by 4 to get: a + b + c + L = 308
With only the 3 TOP scores considered, Dahlia's average is 91 We can write: (a + b + c)/3 = 91 Multiply both sides by 3 to get: a + b + c = 273
What was the score of the quiz that the professor eliminated? In other words, what is the value of L?
So, far, we have two equations: a + b + c + L = 308 a + b + c = 273
Take the TOP equation and replace a + b + c with 273 to get: 273 + L = 308 Subtract 273 from both sides to get: L = 35
