First we need to find the percent sales tax charged. So, 0.66 is what percent of 12? To translate that into an equation:
\(0.66 = \frac{x}{100} \times 12\)
Multiply by 100:
\(66 = 12x\)
Divide by 12:
\(5.5 = x\)
So the sales tax is 5.5 percent.
5.5 percent of 20 is \(0.055*20 = 1.1\), so the sales tax on a $20.00 purchase is $1.10.
\(0.66 = \frac{x}{100} \times 12\)

\(66 = 12x\)
Divide by 12:

We can also solve with a bit of number sense
GIVEN: $12.00 purchase results in $0.66 in tax
So, $2.00 purchase results in $0.11 in tax [If the purchase price is divided by 6, then the tax is divided by 6]
So, $20.00 purchase results in $1.10 in tax [If the purchase price is multiplied by 10, then the tax is multiplied by 10]
Answer: B
