The answer should be $128

from second week onwards, he gets paid the sum of amount of previous weeks + $1.

Hence following will be the pattern -

1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128

Hence at the end of 8th week, he'll get $128.

This problem can also be solved using G.P.
a=1, r=2
8th term = a * r^ (n-1)
=1*2^(7)
=128.
