No the question is correct and it is from MGRE.

The tag from OG was wrong. I suppose it changed when last year we had a problem with them on the board.

Thank you

Appreciate is to show estimation to someone for the job done.

Actually, the meaning of the sentence is to emphasize even more politics, considering them like gods (see the end of the sentence).

So lionize perfectly fit the bill.

Hope this helps.

i couldn't understand the sentence. Does the text "both men AND god" make lionize correct.

i paraphrased the sentence as the politions were treated like man and god too ,but they(people) need to venerate both man and god separately. Is that correct?

There is a "widespread tendency" to do something, and that tendency "stems from [a] need to venerate" somebody. So the tendency described by the blank should be similiar to "venerate."

"Castigate" means to punish or reprimand—the opposite of what you need.

"Remember" and "appreciate" both seem to work.
"
Indemnify" is a complicated word. It can mean to free someone from responsibility for some as yet uncommitted wrongdoing—sort of like handing someone a "Get out of jail free" card. It can also mean to promise money against a potential loss, as is the case with insurance. Fortunately, neither of these meanings, complicated though they are, aligns with "venerate."

Only "lionize"—to grant someone celebrity status—works in this context. Think about the word lion: makes somebody very strong and powerful.
