Let x = the number of $8 CDs purchased
So x = the number of $12 CDs purchased
Money SPENT on $8 CDs = 8x
Money SPENT on $12 CDs = 12x
We can write: 8x + 12x = 200
Simplify: 20x = 200
Solve: x = 10
So, Lyle bought TEN $8 CDs and TEN $12 CDs for a TOTAL of 20 CDs
Answer: 20
