Re: A dressing recipe calls for vinegar and oil (multiple ans) [#permalink]

The least common multiple of 3 and 7 is 21, so if you multiply the first ratio by 7 and the second ratio by 3.

V: O = 14 : 21 and W : O = 15 : 21, such that V: O : W: Total = 14 : 21 : 15: 50

A is true: more water

B is true 14/50= 28%

C is false 15/50 which is not 1/3 or 33%

D is true because the most element in the dress is oil

Hi,

How B is true? It's still not clear to me. The combined ratio says there will 28% of vinegar (part) in every measure of the dressing (whole).

Vinegar is 14 over the whole which is 50

The result is 28% which is > 25%

Now is it more clear ??

Hi,

Okay. I do agree, 28% of vinegar is GT 25%. However, with option B saying Vinegar is at least 25%, isn't that imply there is no lesser percentage of vinegar? To put it another way, B says that the minimum percentage of vinegar in any amount of dressing is 25% How do we ascertain that? This is what bothers me.

With thanks & regards,

The question B says: in the entire solution we will have at least 25% of vinegar ??

yes, it is. we do have 28%. the question is actually yes or no even though we have the presence of the least.

Do we have at least 25% ?

yes we do have. We found out 28%
