Let's take a number <0, -1 for example:
|x| = |-1| = 1
-x = -(-1) = 1
Hence the answer is C.

Two key concepts:
#1: If k is POSITIVE, then \(|k|=k\)
Some examples:
\(|5|=5\)
\(|97|=97\)
\(|3.47|=3.47\)
#2: If k is NEGATIVE, then \(|k|=-k\)
Some examples:
\(|-4|=-(-4)=4\)
\(|-113|=-(-113)=113\)
\(|-8.9|=-(-8.9)=8.9\)

The question tells us that x is NEGATIVE.
So, by Property #2 above, we know that \(|x|=-x\)
So, in Quantity A, we can replace \(|x|\) with \(-x\) to get:
QUANTITY A: \(-x\)
QUANTITY B: \(-x\)
Answer: C
