Let X be the total number of students in PQR high school.
X/12 of the students were absent.
704 is the number of students staying in the school.
We can assume that total number of students who are present as P
P/5 went on field trip.
Total present students P = 704+P/5
So, lets calculate, P - P/5= 704
4P = 3520
P=880
So, total students,
X = X/12+880
X-X/12 = 880
11X = 880 *12
X = 960
X/12 of the students were absent.
