Now since \(c<-1\) means \(c\) could be anything from \(1.000000001\) to \(-10000000\), lets assume \(c=-1\) and see what value \(d\) takes.

\(3c+2d = 8\)

\(3(-1) + 2d =8\)

\(-3+2d=8\)

\(2d=8+3\)

\(2d=11\)

\(d=5.5\)

Now \(c=-1\) gave us \(d=5.5\)

If \(c<-1\), then the value of \(d\) would be greater than \(5.5\).

\(6.5\) is the answer Choice E and that is the correct answer.
