The one described above is a geometric set.
Consider r = 1/2 where r is the constant term we get dividing two successive terms of the set.

The sum of a geometric set is: b1 * (r^(n)-1)/(r-1) where b1 is the first term of the set. Hence:
sum = 1/2 * (((1/2)^10)-1)/(-1/2) = 1 - (1/2)^10

Here is a refresher on finding the sum of a geometric sequence, and solving this problem using it.
