The reinterpretation is obsolete. However, it is conducive (useful) to know something

Blank (i) Blank (ii)
rendition secondary
obfuscation conducive
malapropism disadvantageous

The clarity of the recent translation has made the earlier text by Boethius appear obsolete in comparison. There is nothing in the sentence to support obfuscation(deliberately trying to make the text incomprehensible) or malapropism(mistaken use of words). Plus the next sentence talks about the translation of Boethius. So rendition is the best option and it makes perfect sense. The earlier rendition had become obsolete thanks to the recent translations.

The next sentence begins with however, indication a change of direction in the passage. It is trying to say that even though the translation had become obsolete, it still had some advantages. Only conducive can give such a meaning, disadvantageous is exact opposite in sense to what we are looking for and secondary seems to downgrade the importance of Boethius translations whereas it is clear that the word however, is trying to elevate it.

Yes. Fixed.

However, I am not convinced of E as the right one in the (ii) blank . Even less if the source is Kaplan

This is the OE
Quote:
Let's begin with the first blank. The straight-ahead road sign "in comparison" at the end of the first sentence indicates that the blank is a restatement of the word "translations." The adjective "earlier" prior to the blank and the adjective "recent" prior to the word "translations" also suggest that the missing word will be synonymous with "translations." The second sentence begins with a detour road sign "However," indicating that the word that goes in the second blank will create a contrast to the first sentence.
A good prediction would be "The clarity of recent translations of Aristotle's Categories has made the earlier translations of that text by Boethius appear obsolete in comparison. However, the translation of Boethius is useful to an understanding of the reverence with which early medieval scholars approached the ancient philosophers."
Choice (A) rendition, or "version or interpretation," fits in the first blank because it approximates a translation. Choice (B) obfuscation, or "confusion," is not similar to "translation". Choice (C) malapropism, or "absurd misuse of words," could be taken as the opposite of a translation.
Choice (E) conducive, or "helpful," fits in the second blank because Boethius's translations were, contrary to their appearance, helpful to an understanding of ancient philosophy. Choice (D) secondary, or "of less importance," doesn't fit because the keyword "However" indicates that the translation was important. Choice (F) disadvantageous, or "unfavorable," is the opposite of what we want. The correct answers are (A) and (E).

If you want I will explain also why ..........
