Some people believe that scientific discoveries have given us a much better understanding of the world around us. Others believe that science has revealed to us that the world is infinitely more complex than we ever realized.Write a response in which you discuss which view more closely aligns with your own position and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should address both of the views presented. The invention of spaceship has allowed people to travel beyond earth, seeing what lies ahead in the emptiness of the universe. Our understanding of the world has deepened since access to space open so many new possibilities for human to discover the mystery of everything. However, this new knowledge has created more questions and answers, such that it is almost impossible for a human to fathom the complexity of the universe.
As can be seen in discoveries of technology around us, people have access to entirely new brands of field. The invention of the internet has made people produce massive data, creating new term “big data”. This has allowed jobs such as data scientists and data engineers to emerge. Machinery also allows many engineers to produce in massive quantities, making new jobs such as business and consultant available. These inventions have deepen our understanding, that the world is not only revolved around natural science and environment, that there is more than what can be seen. The creation of the digital world and machinery have made an entirely new meaning for our minds, making the world even more complex.
However, it does not necessarily mean that our understanding has become shallower. In fact, it is the opposite. The discovery of new things has provided new insights for people. Artificial intelligence has made people realize the importance of the brain that allows us to think creatively. It can also be a proof that it is impossible to recreate the complexity of a human’s brain, making people appreciate their brain more. Understandably, scientific discovery proves that people have reached the requirement of understanding something more complex. The invention of machine learning and artificial intelligence are proofs that human can somehow replicate some parts of the brains, but they also open the potential for discoveries, such as how to make the artificial mind works creatively.
I believe that both views have their own merits and that they are correlated to each other. The more we understand a subject, the more confused we become. In this case, our understanding is actually deepening, even though the subject itself may seem confusing. For example, an undergraduate may suggest that he understands the course’s materials, but a professor may think that his materials are too complex to comprehend, even though the professor has far more experience. This paradoxical situation proves that understanding and subject’s complexity have a strong correlation, that one can have a deep understanding of a subject without realizing it.
In conclusion, scientific discoveries show that our understanding of the world has become deeper while revealing the unfathomable complexity of the world. Many inventions have provided human chances to delve deep into more complex subjects. These possibilities will create more discoveries, proving that people have comprehended difficult subjects while also reveal more complex knowledge.
