The bar graph above shows the numbers of people who were surveyed about a car in 5 counties. The pie chart above shows the distribution of how the people in County E rated the car for durability, where each person rated the car for durability with one of the integers 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, where 1 is the worst and 5 is the best.
What was the average (arithmetic mean) rating of the durability of the car in County E?
A) 1.25
B) 1.42
C) 2.53
D) 2.84
E) 3.00

There is no need to use the first graph to obtain the actual numbers of people surveyed in County E who gave the car the durability ratings of 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. We can find the average by just finding the weighted average by using the pie cart. So the average rating of the car by the people surveyed in County E was 0.30(1) + 0.18(2) + 0.17(3) + 0.08(4) + 0.27(5) = 0.3 + 0.36 + 0.51 + 0.32 + 1.35 = 2.84.
