Why my approach is wrong?

P(A) + P(B) - P(A and B)

0.4 + 0.3 - 0.4x0.3 = 0.7 - 0.12 = 0.58

It says to find probability that EXACTLY one is working. You solved for ATLEAST one working (by doing the OR operation). You need to subtract the probability of both working.

P(A) + P(B) - (P(A and B) * 2)

or

P(A and not B) + P(B and not A)
