How long before admissions deadline should I take the GRE?

So, my hope is to go to Grad School in the Fall of 2020. However, I'll be taking the GRE in early January (that's the minimum amount of time I want to give myself to study and do reasonably well), only a few days before the admission deadline of most of the schools I'm interested in. I haven't been able to find a lot of information on this, but logic and common sense tells me that this is cutting things much too close. Overall it looks like I'll need to wait to apply for Spring 2021, as Fall 2020 is just too tight. Am I wrong? Can I take the GRE on, say, January 5th and send in my applications on the 6th?

Technically Yes. you can.
Also, a lot of schools want the GRE score and THEN they perhaps ask you to provide an official score.

I am doing the same, taking the exam in Jan, submit aps by feb 1. Might as well use all the time that is available to prepare for the exam
