Kudos for the right answer and explanation
Lets the side of the smaller square be x.
Area of the smaller square = \(x^2\)
Length of its diagonal = √2x
Length of the smaller diagonal = side of the larger square (given)
Area of the larger square = \(2x^2\)
Shaded area = Larger area - the smaller area
Shaded area = \(x^2\)
They both are equal, so the answer is C
