Since w appears in both quantities, and since we have practically no information about w, this SMELLS like the correct answer might be D.
As such, let's test some values
case i: Since \(x < 0 < y\), and w ≠ 0, one possible set of values is x = -1, y = 1, and w = 1
We get:
Quantity A: \(-\frac{1}{-1}=-(-1)=1\)
Quantity B: \(\frac{1}{1}=1\)
In this case, the two quantities are equal
case ii: Since \(x < 0 < y\), and w ≠ 0, one possible set of values is x = -1, y = 1, and w = 2
We get:
Quantity A: \(-\frac{2}{-1}=-(-2)=2\)
Quantity B: \(\frac{1}{2}\)
In this case, Quantity A is greater
Answer: D

Given the possible values range for x, y and w you can quickly test with the numbers that the answer is D testing only for x, y.
Test x= -1; y = 1.
Quantity A is equal to w. Quantity B is equal to w. A = B
Test x= -0.5; y = 0.5.
Quantity A is equal to 0.5w. Quantity B is equal to 1/(2w). A doesn't equal B.
Test x= -1; y = 1.
Quantity A is equal to w. Quantity B is equal to w. A = B
Test x= -0.5; y = 0.5.
Quantity A is equal to 0.5w. Quantity B is equal to 1/(2w). A doesn't equal B.
