It usually works for me to visualize IEs as a venn diagram within a rectangle - so to rephrase in a visual way - why isn't the P(A) just all of circle A without the overlap of circle B? Why is it instead circle A times 1 minus P(B)?
Probably because the equations mentioned above are not consistent with the venn diagram description. Explanation regarding venn diagram description is correct, not the equations - probably if you can share the link from which the equations are taken, or a screenshot - I can attempt to explain it better.
