Let average weight of five cats = w
Total weight of five cats = 5*w
Weight of one dog = 3 *w

Fraction of dog's weight to weight of all animals = \(\frac{3W}{3W + 5W}\) = 3/8

Picked numbers for this one...

Each cat weighs 10. So the average weight of the cats is 50/5 = 10.
And, the dog weighs 3 times the average, so the dog weighs 30.

Then, the total weight of all the animals is 80. And the dog's weight as a fraction of the whole is 30/80, or 3/8.

Voila! Answer is C
