Using the formula of Work = Rate * Time, solve the rate for each of the machines using 60 for Time in this case to determine the number of widgets per hour that can be made.
Machine A: 350 = 60R --> R = 350/60
Machine B: 250 = 60R --> R = 250/60
Combined, how long to make 1000 widgets? Plug in 1000 for W, and for R just add the rates for machine A & B combined.
1000 = (350 / 60 + 250 / 60) * T
1000 = (600 / 60) * T
1000 = 10T
100 = T --> so it takes 100 minutes to make 1000 widgets, which equals 1 hour 40 minutes
Answer is E

Number of minutes required to make 600 widgets by both machines together = 60
Number of minutes requires to make 1000 widgets by both machines = \(\frac{(1000 *60)}{600}\) = 100 minutes = 1 hour 40 mins
