We can find two equations from the questions: x+y = 1 AND x-y = 1/2
From the first equation, we can solve it in terms of x or y (solving for x is easier so we can plug into the second equation and not worry about the negative sign)
x = 1 - y plug into the second equation
1 - y - y = 1/2
1 - 2 y = 1/2
2 y = 1/2
y = 1/4
x = 1 - 1/4
x = 3/4
Lets compare both options
Option A = (3/4)* (1/4) = 3/12
Option B = (3/4)/ (1/4) -> this is the same as multiplying the numerator by 4.
(3/4)*4 = 3
We can see that option B is bigger.
