The easiest and fastest way to solve this is to substitute convenient numbers. Let x = 8. Then y = 1, z = 3, and w = 10. The ratio of w+x:z is now simply 18:3 or 6:1.

x/y=8/1
y/z=1/3
We want to find (w+x)/z
(w+x)/z= w/z + x/z
w/z=(w/x)*(x/y)*(y/z)= (5/4)*(8/1)*(1/3)= 40/12= 10/3
x/z=(x/y)*(y/z)= (8/1)*(1/3)= 8/3
Therefore
w/z + x/z = 10/3 + 8/3 = 18/3= 6
