This is an application of exponents properties.
(a^m)^n = a^(m*n)
a^m * a^n = a^(m+n)
We have A=(k^4)^4=k^(4*4)=k^16
and B=k(k^3)^5=k*k(3*5)=k^1 * k^15 = k^(1+15)=k^16
So the two quantities are equal.
