So the case falls within the established precedents.means it has been done earlier ."But"is the transition word that needs to be noted hence it is nothing unprecedented.Choosing the second blank might be done by POE .Banal and mundane are of the same meaning and can be cancelled out.trite means lacking orginality and can be cancelled out.Practical doesn't fit in this so Singular is the correct answer.
