Hi Sandy,

Thanks for the answer.

I think the question needs to be reviewed as data shows total number of animals were 10000 in 2002 and 9000 in 2003 .However, the answers are calculated considering
total number of animals as 9000 in 2002 and 10000 in 2003.

Hi

thanks for pointing it out! You are quite right that the calculations based off of the data is wrong. These are the official answers given in the Princeton review.

Thanks Sandy for pointing out the glaring mistake. This is not the *only* mistake I see in Princeton exercise.
Darker bar is for 2002 which has 35% gold fish sold in total of 10,000, comes out as 3500.
Lighter bar is for 2003 which has 40% gold fish sold in total of 9000, comes out to be 3600.
Hence the correct answer is 100 but no where in the option.

Explanation

Question 9. In 2003, only dogs and goldfish each accounted for more than 20% of the store’s total sales.
Hence 2 is the answer.

Question 10. The number of goldfish sold in 2002 was 35% of 9,000, or 3,150 goldfish. The number of goldfish in 2003 was 40% of 10,000, or 4,000. To find the difference, simply subtract: 4,000 - 3,150 = 850.
Hence option D is correct.

Question 11. Total cat sales in 2002 can be calculated as 10% of 9,000, or 900 total cats. In 2003, the figure is 9% of 10,000, or 900 total cats. Therefore, the same number of cats was sold in both years. The answer is choice (A).
Hence option A is correct.

Question 12. Store A and Store B both sold an equal number of pets in 2002, meaning both sold 4,500 animals. If the total number of pets sold by Store A then increases by 34%, Store A sold 6,030 animals in 2003. The total number of animals sold in 2003 was 10,000, meaning store B sold only 3,970 pets. Use the percent change formula: \(\frac{(4500 - 3970)}{4500}*100\) to get choice (A).
Hence option A is correct.

for Q9 the answer should be 3 NOT 2 since hedgehog also accounts for more than 20%. Please check it out.

You are right: dogs, goldfish, hedgehogs.

Anyone have right answers and explanations for Q. 11 and Q.12? I think Q.11 should be B, since there is a slight change visible in graphs.
And for Q.12, I got the answer as 54% decrease but there is no such option.

Too many mistakes. I.e.

The amount in store B is 9000 not 10,000;

12.

Thus, if in Store B the amount of pets increased by 34% giving 6030, then the number in store B is 9000-9030 = 2970.

Thus the percent decrease is given by
(2970 - 4500)/4500 = -0.34

Other mistakes have been pointed out above but no one redid the calculation for number 12, so here it is.
