The sentence says that companies that do not innovate will be left behind by companies that do take risks and innovate. We need words that match this risk taking behaviour. Complacent and passive are out since they mean the opposite. Entrenched and established merely mean companies that have existed for a long time. That leaves aggressive and intrepid.
