A=100-y=1
B=99-87=12.
We have B>A.

We can conceptualize subtraction as measuring the distance between two points on a number line. Thus, the question is asking us which is greater: the distance between y and 100, or the distance between y and w? Since we don't know anything about these variables aside from the fact that they're less than 100, either quantity could be greater, or they could be equal. D is the correct answer.
