A+B+C = 35+30+25 = 90%
Hence D received the remaining 10% which is 840
Therefore, 100% of inheritance would be 8400
The question is asking inheritance of A. Hence .35 * 8400 = 2940

Let inheritance amount be: x
35% of x + 30% of x + 25% of x + 840 = x.
35x/100 + 30x/100 + 25x/100 + 840 = x.
90x/100 - x = -840.
-10x/100 = -840 ==> x = 8400.
Inheritance of A = 8400 * 35/100.
= $2940.
