The best way to teach — whether as an educator, employer, or parent — is to praise positive actions and ignore negative ones.
Quoting Colleen Wilcox, "Teaching is the greatest art of optimism", unequivocally approving the statement made by the author with regard to the significance of praising positive actions as a teaching practice. Humans spend their whole lives learning something new every day. This is the how we grow and evolve. However learning effectively requires teaching effectively. Effective teaching doesn't merely mean educating the content, yet also signifies the approach of teaching. It is of utmost importance for a teacher to opt for a route that aids in not only learning the theme, but also keep a positive and healthy environment, that encourages the students to learn more constructively.
Humans need encouragement and praise to function properly. When they are applauded for the milestones they achieve, however small they may be, exceptionally raises their morale and boosts up their confidence. An educator has the means of constructing a student's personality. The influence that an educator has on its students can be the very reason of their success or failure. The teaching style and methodologies that he chooses to use on his students can immensely affect how their lives and personalities are shaped. Same goes for any other person whose responsibility is to teach something. A teacher's job, whether it a parent, and educator, or and employer, is to help his/her students become the best version of themselves. Teachers should have a soft, forthcoming personality and must provide with a nurturing territory where students can be more open, and can easily share their ideas. This type of environment encourages students to do better and better, and keep moving forward. When people are contented for their positive actions by their teacher, it makes them want to please him/her even more, thereby, increasing their ability learn more effectively by being more productive and vigorous. However, with this, it is also of high priority to let them know when they make a mistake, but in a constructive way, while also educating them on how to fix that mistake. This way, they learn how to solve their inaccuracies without being scolded or belittled thereby again resulting in a healthier environment for them to learn.
However, being hard on students, indicating their flaws, trivializing and reprimanding them for the mistakes they make can abundantly hinder their growth and affect their mental health. When people are not treated right, especially from someone they look up to, like a parent or a teacher, it incredibly hinders their constructive mental and emotional growth. Fixing on their flaws all the time, and not praising them enough can lead to many mental problems for the students. This can lead to immense low self-esteem and morale, feeling of loneliness, being distrustful towards others and themselves, distant and quiet. Not merely this, this further leads to depression and the belief that they are not worthy enough, thereby become more socially awkward and mentally distraught. Therefore, delivering a kind, auspicious and amiable environment holds utmost importance to turn the learners into confident, positive, and successful people.
In conclusion, teachers need to me more open and friendly towards their students, and display a sense of respect and care to them. They should now use harsh methods that can scar their personality and thwart their evolvement. Nevertheless, they should also provide constructive criticism when needed, and teach how to fix their mistakes and be there for them. A happy and content mind is more productive and efficient, thereby making learning and experience that is effective and enjoyable. Therefore, the best way to teach - whether as an educator, employer, or a parent - is to praise positive actions of their students, while showing them ways of how to get things right and rectify their flaws amiably.
