Explanation:

This is straight forward question,

We know, Volume of cylinder =\( \pi * radius^2 *Height
\)
therefore,

231 = \(\pi * ({\frac{1}{2}})^2 * Height\)

or height (length of the hose) = \(\frac{{231 * 4}}{{\pi}}\)

231 cubic inches is the volume we(re trying to get to.

The volume of a cylinder is just the area of the top multiplied by its length, What's the length?

Well... pi (1/2)^2 * l = 231 ==> (231/pi)*4 = l = 924/pi.
