2x long and x wide which means that its area is (2x*x) = 2x^2.
2 times longer and 3 times wider means this: ((2*2x)*(3*x)) = 4x*3x = 12x^2
Finally, how much larger is this than the original? 12x^2/2x^2 = 6
If you want to be real slick you'd see that the relationship is all just multiplication so 2 times longer and 3 times longer would be 6x bigger. How much more area ould be 3.5 times longer and and 10 times wider? 35.
