x+200 not= 2x ; this is because 2 is part of a ratio.

x = volume of water.
After adding 200 mL of water
x+200/2x = 2/3

x = 600; 2x = 1200;

So original volume of solution = 600 + 1200 = 1800

you realized the Arithmatic progression because 1 became 2 and 2 became 3?

So that, original volume is 600 + (2*600) = 1800

water is \(x*\frac{1}{(1+2)}\)=\(x/3\)

\((x/3 + 200)/(x+200)\)=\(\frac{2}{(2+3)}\)
\(5x/3+1000=2x+400\)
\(5x+3000=6x+1200\)
\(x=1800\) is the required original volume in Quantity A

Answer is C

Also, you could use alligation method for mixtures

|2/5-1/3| / |2/5 - 1| = 200/x,

1/9=200/x and x=1800, where x stands for original volume

Given,
Water : Acetone = 1:2
Original Volume =1x+2x
Now added 200 ml of water, then
(1x+200)/2x=2/3
x=600
Original Volume=600+1200=1800 Answer (C)
