This is an algebraic problem that is fairly simple if one approaches it systematically.
Given that there is only one expression with three variables, write an isolated equation for each variable:
z = x + y
x = z - y
y = z -x
Now look (but do not stare dumbfoundedly!) at the answer choices; notice that no answer choice has a negative sign preceding it, and no answer choice has '+', so we know 'z=x+y' doesn't work; hence, eliminate A & D.
Let's compare to 'z-x' then. Clearly, answer choice E is (z-x)/x = x/x = 1
The answer is E.

Solution:
x+y=z

Dividing both sides by x
1=\(\frac{z-y}{x}\)
