He climbs 2m in 2 minutes and then slips 1m next minute, so he climbs just 1m in 3 mins.
Now, 14m = 12m + 2m
He will climb 12m in 12 x 3 = 36 minutes
The next 2m he can climb in 2 minutes
So, the total time required = 36 + 3 = 38 minutes

The monkey ascend 2 m in 2minutes and then slips down in the 3rd minute.
Every 3 minutes he gains 1 m.
This happens when he reaches 12 m, which takes him 36 minutes.
In the 37th and minute, he climbs up the last 2 m.
Total time is therefore 38 minutes.
