Questions like this one are not so good.

Ginger is or a spicy root or a person who has orange-brown hair

Make no sense in the sentence

Carcass

Why is it castigated instead of deposed?

Deposed means to fire someone.

Castigated means (at least one of its synonyms) to punish, to discipline someone.

The sentence indicates that the employee is young and makes mistakes. “Verdant” means either green and lush, like a forest, or new and inexperienced (the use of green as a metaphor, as in, she’s still green at her job). “Banal” means unoriginal, which does not fit with the rest of the sentence, and “sagacious” means shrewd, which is the opposite of how the employee acted. Since the mistake was so expensive, it makes sense that the employee would be “castigated,” or severely criticized. He wouldn’t be “deposed”—that word is for kings, dictators, etc., forced out of power. And the employee would not be “enamored,” or filled with a feeling of love, for the mistake he just made.

You know that the employee is young and makes mistakes. Verdant means either “green and lush” (like a forest), or “new and inexperienced” (the use of “green” as a metaphor, as in, “She’s still green at her job.”) Since the mistake was so expensive, it makes sense that the employee would be castigated, or severely criticized. Verdant, castigated.

Why not Verdant & Deposed?

Let's break down the sentence and the connotations of the blanks:
- The sentence describes a "young employee" who made a "serious mistake" that cost the company money. This suggests the employee might be inexperienced or new.
- The consequence for making such a mistake would likely be negative: criticism, reprimand, or punishment.

Let's examine the options for each blank:

Blank (i): Describes the young employee
- A. banal: Lacking in originality, freshness, or novelty; boring. This doesn't fit the context of making a mistake.
- B. ginger: Careful or cautious. This is the opposite of what would lead to a "serious mistake."
- C. verdant: Literally, green with grass or other rich vegetation. Figuratively, it means inexperienced or unsophisticated. This meaning fits perfectly for a "young employee" who makes a "serious mistake."

Blank (ii): Describes the consequence of the mistake
- D. enamored: In love with; captivated by. This is a positive emotion and doesn't fit a negative consequence.
- E. castigated: To reprimand (someone) severely. This fits perfectly with the idea of being strongly criticized or punished for a serious mistake.
- F. deposed: To remove from office suddenly and forcefully. While it's a negative consequence, "castigated" (severe reprimand/criticism) is a more general and fitting response to a "mistake" within a company context, rather than a forceful removal from a position of power.

Conclusion:
- For Blank (i), "verdant" (meaning inexperienced) is the best fit.
- For Blank (ii), "castigated" (meaning severely reprimanded) is the best fit.

The completed sentence reads: "The verdant young employee was soon castigated for making a serious mistake that cost the company thousands of dollars." This makes logical sense.
