A woman drives 200 miles in a week. She drove 80 miles as "stop and go driving" and her mileage was 18 miles/gallon. She drove the remaining 120 miles on the highway and her mileage was 24 miles/gallon. What is her average miles/gallon for the week to one decimal place??

Total distance covered = 200 miles
Part 1 : 80 miles @ 18 miles/ gallon
fuel used = \(\frac{80}{18}\) = 4.44 gallon
Part 2 : 120 miles @ 24 miles/ gallon
fuel used = \(\frac{120}{24}\) = 5 gallon
Total fuel used = 9.44 gallon
Average mileage = \(\frac{Total-distance}{total-fuel-used}\)
= \(\frac{200}{9.44}\)
= 21.186 = 21.2 (to one decimal place)
Answer 21.2

I did this as a weighted average question and got the right answer:
80/200 = 0.4, therefore the remainder of the jouney is 0.6
Answer: 0.4(18) + 0.6(24)
= 21.59, approx 21.6
