Tarik has a pile of 6 green chips numbered 1 through 6 respectively and another pile of 6 blue chips numbered 1 through 6 respectively. Tarik will randomly pick 1 chip from
the green pile and 1 chip from the blue pile.

Quantity A
Quantity B
The probability that both chips selected by Tarik will display a number less than 4.
\(\frac{1}{2}\)

A) Quantity A is greater.
B) Quantity B is greater.
C) The two quantities are equal.
D) The relationship cannot be determined from the information given.

Quick way to do this problem:

Clearly, there is a 3/6 chance that one of the cookies selected will satisfy the criteria. Pulling that off twice in a row? 1/4. Clearly B is larger than A.

Hi,

Tarik will randomly pick 1 chip from the green pile and 1 chip from the blue pile.

Tarik will pick 1 chip from each pile.

so 1 , 2 , 3 from blue pile and same for green pile.

So \(\frac{3}{6} * \frac{3}{6}\) = \(\frac{1}{4}\)

Qt A < Qt B

Answer B
